Nature in the City

Patterson Park Audubon Center is seeking sponsors for our 2022 Baltimore Birding Weekend! We are celebrating our city’s wildlife with the 6th annual event, May 13-15. New and experienced bird watchers are welcome to explore green spaces, guided by Audubon experts.

Last year, guests explored 20 unique parks and waterways, and they spotted over 100 bird species! This year’s spring excursions will include guided wildlife watching in local parks, a paddle on the Patapsco, and a boat trip to Hart- Miller Island.

In the inaugural year, Baltimore magazine bestowed a Best of Baltimore award for “Best New Eco Event,” and National Audubon Society featured a story, “Baltimore’s Birding Scene Is on the Rise,” on its website’s front page. The Baltimore Sun also shared the surprising diversity of waterfowl seen in and near the harbor.

Baltimore for Birds and Communities

Patterson Park Audubon Center is a Baltimore leader in urban bird conservation, nature education, and community revitalization. Though we are headquartered in southeast Baltimore, our wingspan reaches much further. Patterson Park Audubon Center’s focus is to grow Baltimore for birds and communities.

We collaborate with city residents to transform blighted city spaces into colorful wildflower gardens that invite birds, butterflies, and people to enjoy them. We partner with schools to plant bird-friendly gardens and explore nature in the city through interactive education programs while meeting teachers’ curriculum goals. Our unique model utilizes city parks as learning tools for tomorrow’s leaders.

The purpose of Audubon’s Baltimore Birding Weekend is to provide guided experiences that connect people to spaces that support wildlife diversity, and we explore this in parks and on the waterfront. Autumn is the ideal season to catch a glimpse of migratory birds on their international journeys, stopping by Baltimore’s green spaces to nest or a brief visit on their way to witer homes in the south!

Ticket sales and sponsorships for the Baltimore Birding Weekend field trips will support Audubon’s neighborhood greening and youth and family education programs such as

  • Green Leaders youth leadership and advocacy
  • Bird Ambassadors Latinx leadership and action projects
  • Wildlife Gardening Workshops for home gardeners
  • Real world science programs for elementary students in their local parks
  • Community partnerships to green Baltimore for birds and people!

Spread Your Wings with Patterson Park Audubon Center

Sponsoring the Baltimore Birding Weekend places your business or organization directly in view of our birders, who will spend money on lodging, meals, transportation, and outdoor fun while they’re attending the event. Sponsors’ names will reach an audience in Baltimore and beyond, through e-news, social media, and web hits. Audubon Mid-Atlantic has 70,000 subscribers and will promote the event to a broad geography through electronic news and social media, recognizing your company or organization as our partner in promoting bird-friendly Baltimore.

Nationwide, 86 million Americans spend nearly $76 billion annually on travel and equipment-related expenditures associated with birdwatching. This is an emerging market in urban centers like Baltimore, where the city’s green spaces are “hotspots” for observing rare species that rely on these habitats for food and shelter year-round.

Sponsorship levels are tailored to suit your budget. Join the Audubon flock and promote your business to one of the largest growing sectors of the outdoor travel industry!
