Audubon’s Baltimore Birding Weekend is more than a great opportunity to explore the city and see unique local birds…it is also a time to meet unique local birders! Birders will enjoy great food and craft beer at Union Craft Brewing. See what birds have been reported on the Friday and Saturday ABBW trips, and learn about local birding hotspots from our Audubon guides. Join us to swap birding stories and add to the ABBW checklist for the weekend. The Tally Rally at Union Craft Brewery will be held outside on the patio. There is no fee for attending the tally rally, but drinks and food will be available for purchase. Please note: Kids are welcome but must remain with you.

At 6:30 pm, we invite you to join us to witness the twilight spectacle of Chimney Swifts arriving to roost at the industrial chimney located at the Free State Bookbindery on Elm Avenue in Hampden. Located just a six-minute drive away from Union Craft Brewing, the swifts have been returning regularly to the chimney this September. Chimney Swifts breed along eastern North America and migrate to South America in the late summer and early fall. Migrating swifts pass through Baltimore during their journey south, and they have used this chimney as a communal roost for many years.

On some evenings, more than 100 people may gather along Elm Avenue to witness the swift spectacle. We will park along Elm or nearby streets. Bring binoculars if you have them, but they are not necessary. Camp chairs or folding chairs are recommended. The swifts usually enter the chimney within a half hour after sunset, which is 6:58 pm on Sept. 25. The spectacle should be over by 7:30 pm.
