Middle Branch Park is a 150 acres of woods and wetlands located on the “middle branch” of the Patapsco River near the Inner Harbor. Nearby, Southwest Area Park features open fields, forest and wetlands brimming with birds. More than 150 species have been recorded between the two parks in May. Sightings may include herons and shorebirds in the wetlands, and warblers, vireos and flycatchers in the forest. This trip will include one mile hikes along nature trails at both parks, and a 15-minute drive between sites. Morning coffee and mugs provided by David Rosario, State Farm agent. 

Druid Hill Park

Meeting Location: park in parking lot or along East Drive near the Dr. Ralph W.E. Jones, Jr. Administration Building (3001 East Drive) at Druid Hill Park (see Google Map for specific location)

Explore the 745 acres of open fields, hardwood forest and reservoir at Druid Hill Park in search of warblers, woodpeckers and waterfowl. More than 120 species have been recorded here in May. Join your guides for a special opportunity to view nesting Yellow-crowned Night-Herons above the Jones Falls. This trip will include short hikes on occassionally steep trails along the Jones Falls Trail, and some short driving between sites in this very large urban park. Gwynns Falls Leakin Park
8:00 – 11:00 am

Meeting Location: Winans Meadow Trailhead (see the Google Map for specific location)

The forests of West Baltimore are brimming with birds in May. This field trip will begin at the Winans Meadow Trailhead along the Gwynns Falls Trail. Birders will hike in the mature hardwood forest, and may drive to another trailhead in the park to search for more birds. More than 100 species have been recorded here in May. Species may include Wood Thrush, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and more than a dozen species of warbler. This trip will include up to three miles of hiking along hilly nature trails. Morning coffee and mugs provided by David Rosario, State Farm agent.
